The Blackbird Studio Model is a convergence of exceptional instrument design and an undying commitment to tone. Designed in collaboration with world-renowned Blackbird Studio owner John McBride, the instrument was designed to merge vintage design attributes and modern production methods, in order to significantly advance the instruments performance results. The JNDC Blackbird Studio Model is hand-selected for the superior vibrance, warmth, and tonal character these shells possess. Similar to the Studio Line copper and Beacon Bronze, the Blackbird Studio model is a thinner shell in comparison to the Studio Line and TKO brass shells. These drums are very similar in timbre to the vintage snares from the late 1920’s and early 1960’s instruments, as a result of the thinner shell construction. The slight variations in shell thickness result in more mid-range and low-range frequencies with added warmth. The Blackbird Studio Model is articulate, powerful, and full of the color and character of the fine vintage instruments of the past, and more.

Once the Blackbird Studio Model is hand-selected, the bearing edges and snare beds are finished by hand in order to refine and optimize the sonic performance. The Verdigris Blackbird Studio Model is finished with a museum quality Cupric patina and heat-sealed in 100% Carnauba wax. The Blackbird Studio Model celebrates the legacy of vintage instruments highly prized by recording and performance artists, as well as, the pursuit of tone and character in the voice of instrument performance and design.

The Blackbird Studio Model design and hardware consist of 2.5mm solid brass bright nickel- plated triple flanged hoops, ten solid brass bright nickel-plated Corder tube lugs, bell-flanged bearing edges, vintage-inspired crimped snare beds, 20-strand Puresound snare wires, 24k gold-plated brass JNDC feather motif drum badge, and the bright nickel-plated proprietary cast bronze JNDC “One Touch Classic” snare drum strainer (throw-off) system. A certificate of authenticity, serialized lapel badge, and a complimentary embroidered soft shell case accompany each instrument.
